Abbatucci Cuvée Collection Blanc “Diplomate d'Empire"

2021
Cuvee's full name is "Diplomate d'Empire - Il Cavaliere - Don-Jacques-Pascal Abbatucci" who was a childhood friend of Napoleon, and under the Empire spent several years as a diplomat in Naples. Faithful until the end, he was at Napoleon's side at the Battle of Waterloo. Blended from several parcels in the press or pressed separately, depending on the ripeness of the different grape varieties. Direct pressing of whole or destemmed grapes, depending on stalk maturity. Static settling for 24 to 48 hours. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in demi-muid. Aged under wood (demi-muid) and on lees for 9 months, then in stainless steel vats for 6-7 months after blending the best batches.
To the eye, this wine is limpid and brilliant with green and light golden highlights. On the nose, there are aromas of white and yellow flowers, such as chamomile, broom and lemon blossom. Fruity scents follow, with notes of peaches, mirabelle plums and ripe melons. On the palate, the attack is lively and frank, well-balanced with the ample, silky texture of this solar vintage. This intense wine coats the palate with aromas of ripe, sweet yellow fruit, spicy notes and peppery bitterness.
The nose is intense with aromas of ripened yellow and exotic fruits with a touch of marquis fragrances. A full-bodied white wine with excellent freshness.
"The Diplomate blanc is from the original Corsican varietal holdouts that spawned the revolution. The Diplomate is rich, exotic, and appealing—a monument to the grandeur of the forgotten Corsican varietals." - Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant
